Maddy singing at her Senior Voice Recital with the Bridges Academy of Fine Arts. Instructor: Beverly Laubach. Accompanied by Catherine S. Filmed in May 2008 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Houston, TX.
Title: Take, O Take those lips away
Composer: Charles Hubert Hastings Parry
Text by Anonymous, quoted by John Fletcher (1579-1625), in Bloody Brother, 1639 [two stanzas]
and William Shakespeare (1564-1616), in Measure for Measure, c. 1604. [one stanza]

The first verse (an occaionaly the second verse) have been set to music by at least 19 other composers through out the ages
Take, o take those lips away,
That so sweetly [were] forsworn;
And those eyes, the break of day,
Lights [that] do mislead the morn:
But my kisses bring again;
Seals of love, [but] seal'd in vain, sealed in vain.

Hide, o hide those hills of snow
that thy frozen bosom wears,
On whose tops the pinks that grow
are yet of those that April wears;
But first set my poor heart free,
Bound in those icy chains by thee.

  • Oh my, the text in this song is so cheesy and stupid, and yet the your voice moved me to tears. Bravo! You have quite a gift, the voice of an angel.

  • wow

  • oh my gosh, you're amazing!

    this song is soo difficult for me

  • Wow, really pretty voice. You have a really nice "give and take" quality in your voice, it enables some really nice dynamic variations. Your soft pallet was definitely up, creating a nice sound!
