Hartley Bay to Sturgeon Chutes

August 23-26/2010, We departed Hartley Bay Marina, traveled west through Hartley Bay, into Wanapitei Bay, heading west 4 km up the Wanapitei River, turn north for 3 km to Sturgeon Chutes. We stayed the night at campsite #605 this is really remote for French River Provincial Park, as boats cannot come up here in the dark. The fishing here was fantastic. The next day we travel south down the Wanapitei River, into Thompson Bay, around Little Pig Island, west into the French River Western Channel, and camping at campsite #704 across from Pig Island.
Day 3, we traveled back up the Western Channel until we reached Wanapitei Bay, paddled up Wanapitei Bay to Campsite 607, where we spent our last night. The next day we got up paddled to Hartley Bay Marina and headed home. This was a 56 km loop trip which was perfect length for us for three nights. I would love to return, stay a couple of days at Sturgeon Chutes and explore up the Wanapitei River
