  • Heavenly singing. And I was fortunate enough to hear and see them in Vienna as a young music student.

  • beste Sänger, beste Inszenierung!!Danke!!!

  • At the curtain calls the audience sitting in the balconies went crazy, tore up their programs and threw the pieces down into the orchestra.

  • @sblackmun Lucky you! The Met now has an online database (it won't let me post the link) through which I learn that Lisa della Casa (!) was Octavian, and none other than Rothenberger was Sophie! With Otto Edelmann as Ochs, Mignon Dunn as Annina, and Sandor Konya as the Italian tenor!!

  • I was present at Schwartzkopf's debut at the Met. Does anyone remember who sang Sophie and the Rosenkavalier?

And yes, it was a completely amazing evening! Strauss's music at the end is perfect!

  • Que ces gens sont mignons, cet air tient du miracle, il n´est pas terrestre il est céleste. Remarquable exécution. Merci a Strauss. C´est magnifique, absolument magnifique.

  • @TheBlauauge

  • Amen... very well said. I'm a Cellist and playing this opera was page after page of barely playable music... but what gorgeous singing...a real treat for the audience... for the orchestra, not so much.

  • oh my god what a performance...

both make me crying. its simply perfect. Heaven sake we have this film to watch it over and over again....such beauty in singing and acting breath taking...when people are enthusiastic about former opera-days here is the proof..now i understand why people sleep in front of the ticketcorner to get some...ma deepest respect for the ladies rothenberger and jurinac
