This is just a simple video of my home recording studio. It's a very small room, but has floor to celling bass traps and more than enough sound absorbers. I made all the bass traps and sound absorbers by hand and ended up going with the plaid fabric because it was the cheapest I could find after trying several fabric stores.
As you can see I don't have a ton of outboard gear and my set up is pretty simple. It's basically a 003 Rack+ into a quad core computer with plenty of hard drive and memory. The focus of my home recordings are going to be on getting the best possible sound with my microphones instead of using expensive gear to alter the sound of my recordings. It's a 100% digital recording set up and I can add effects like EQ, compression, and reverb inside pro tools 8 LE by adding plug ins to various tracks.
But before I even get that far my goal will be to get the best possible sound before even using any effects. This way I can use as little processing as possible and save my self time by doing it right in the first place. Choosing the right microphone and proper placement to get the sound I want it what it's all about. Now I have a room set up that can actually achieve these goals.
Not to mention listening to music alone sounds awesome in the room. I've only had this room set up for a few days now, but I can already tell mixing audio is easier and more accurate in an acoustically treated room.
