A combination of better diagnosis, treatment and genetic testing is starting to help people with HCM, and their families, fight back against their inherited risk.
@IseultCharms I'm not a Doctor so I don't really know. My father was never treated for his HTCM. You'd have to ask a health care professional, sorry I couldn't be anymore helpful. Hope you find out. x
@traceyannsteele Tracey, I would have your sons checked out. I wouldnt worry; you should do this for safety precautions. My brother and I have cardiomyopathy, and my father had a heart transplant at age 39 because of cardiomyopathy. Our children will be checked for cardiomyopathy throughout most of their life. My son was first checked at age 5, his next will be checked at age 10.
There is alot of help nowadays and as long as regularly checked and caught early it should be ok. Sending Love and prayers to you at this difficult time. xxxx
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. My father died aged 59, I was 18 when it happen. This condition can take loved ones away so suddenly and leave alot of questions. I was told that the condition starts to show when your aged in your early 20's and the person at risk should make an appointment with the doctors to go to the hospital for an Ecogram (Eco) of the heart to check the valves for any thickening. There is a 50% chance your sons could have it. I have to checked every year or two.
