Enemy of the State
"There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!"
"Savio's moral clarity, his eloquence, and his democratic style of leadership inspired thousands of fellow Berkeley students to protest university regulations which severely limited political speech and activity on campus. The non-violent campaign culminated in the largest mass arrest in American history, drew widespread faculty support, and resulted in a revision of university rules to permit political speech and organising. This significant advance for student freedom rapidly spread to countless other colleges and universities across the country." [Via stonecast, see here: http://www.savio.org/who_was_mario.html]

I'm not sure if your comment was meant to be funny, or what, but it was pretty damned stupid. The spirit of American Patriotism is outrage. Outrage enough to take arms in rhetoric, and in violence; even, in treason, against ones own government. That is, to "rage against the machine," as it were. I'm not even going to validate lalelu900s rambling, incoherent, comment with a response beyond this.
"Savio went on to become a teacher of mathematics, physics and philosophy at Sonoma State University, to speak and organize in favor of immigrant rights and affirmative action and against U.S.intervention in Central America."
@GodotheInfantry: Mario Savio's statement has nothing, zero, to do with whatever you consider to be American patriotism. It has nothing to do with any form of patriotism. Look to democratic struggles in countries all over the world, particularly in Latin America, to see what the US-dominated machine has created, when people must fight for being able to pay a price for their water that doesn't leave them starving etc. This is the broader context of the call "to put your bodies upon the gears".
The machine isn't inherently evil. In the speech it's the operation and specifically the operators of the machine that Savio takes issue with. Just as applicable today.
