Enemy of the State

"There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!"

"Savio's moral clarity, his eloquence, and his democratic style of leadership inspired thousands of fellow Berkeley students to protest university regulations which severely limited political speech and activity on campus. The non-violent campaign culminated in the largest mass arrest in American history, drew widespread faculty support, and resulted in a revision of university rules to permit political speech and organising. This significant advance for student freedom rapidly spread to countless other colleges and universities across the country." [Via stonecast, see here: http://www.savio.org/who_was_mario.html

  • LInkin Park brought me here. And because of that, I memorized this speech and my veiw of politics has changed forever. I adore this man.

  • @agentsunnshine Amen, brother. What matters is not how you got here, but that you arrived safely.

  • For everyone that found this via Linkin Park's Wretches & Kings, here's the legendary Mario, along with the lyrics to Wretches & Kings, on Mike Shinoda's blog: bit.ly / uhANfd

  • @Dazza3500 Hey, you'd a loved Hitler!

'The operations of machine so odious that it makes you sick at heart?' Mario Savio, YOU ARE A PRIVILEDGED COLLEGE STUDENT, YOU ASS. You study and read and write, you aren't some poor Cuban who crossed Castro (whom you admired) or some villager murdered by the Viet Cong (whom you also admired) to make an example of.

    Fuck the Left!

  • Wretches and kings brought me to here

  • @AirlayLeekoh Let's. Where would you like to start?

  • @antagonised Occupy a SOLUTION

  • @agentsunnshine AMEN!

  • Right now the movement has too many weekend warriors. Eventually we're going to shake off the liberals, i.e. the flunkies, and we're going to throw ourselves upon the levers and we're going to make it stop.

  • Was he talking about the Vietnam War at the time?

  • "...and you've got to make it stop!"

    DUU-DUU-DUU-IE-IE-DUU-DUU-DUU-IE-IE-DUU-DUU-DUU-IE-IE
