Senator Andy Ciesla (R-10), a current member and former chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, comments on the proposal by New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine to more than double tolls on the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike.

Ciesla notes that Corzine's toll hike proposal does nothing to address the state's Transportation Trust Fund (TTF), and without a dedicated source of funding, the TTF will quickly lack funding for any new projects.

Ciesla also notes that Corzine and the Democrat-majority in the New Jersey Legislature have repeatedly refused to consider the common-sense Republican proposal to fund the TTF using money that is already collected by the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission.

The Republican plan would permanently fund the TTF, without raising and taxes or tolls, but the Democrats and Governor Corzine refuse to even discuss this plan to protect taxpayers and tollpayers.
