Where can we watch a version of this movie? It looks great & it is also part of my heritage (being born in Fort Smith, Arkansas). Anybody know where I can get myself a DVD or watch the movie?
@LokiDWolf Well it looks like a good movie on a fascinating subject and I suspect it would have been helpful to have Morgan Freemans support during the making of the movie, (but that's hollywood!). I wish you the best of luck in the future and hope to see more "little known" historical subjects brought to the screen.
@bluegsp Well, the interview I seen him in he wants to play the role. I'm not sure if he knows about this version or any others. I do know that a Hollywood distribution company has this version and all we can do is sit and wait.
As far as release it was locally. It's an independent film and definitely wasn't enough money to have it go national let alone select cities. :(
I'm just an actor in the movie though so I don't know ALL the details to that.
@LokiDWolf I saw him mention Bass Reeves in an interview, but he said that it was a story that has been done yet, so I don't know if he is even aware of this movie. How wide of release did it have? I am in Minnesota I don't remember hearing anything about it.
@bluegsp Well I believe you can do a Google search with Morgan and Bass Reeves in the search and you can see him mention it during an interview. He mentions it. I'm truly hoping he'll see THIS rendition of it. It was very well received here in San Antonio and sold out in all 3 showings. The actors even risked not getting in. LOL
@houselogin Actually that's when the movie was shown here in San Antonio. It was picked up by a Hollywood studio and we're (cast) waiting for them to release it. Looking at the end of the year 2010. :) Thanks for your response.
@imacop2003 i'm glad you chose Bass Reeves to teach your students. After doing research on his story and playing this role...I learned that he was a true role model. Look for this rated PG 13 film to be released on DVD Feb 2011. Thanks for sharing.
i am a school recource officer here in arkansas. during black history month a young black kid came up to me and brought up a good point. he said we hear all the time about famous african americans but we never hear who was the first black police officer or other famous police officer. i did some research and then taught a class on Bass Reeves. basss reeves was not only known for his ability to catch outlaws, but as well for the way he treated people. he was honest and professional.
my best friend, jasmine baccerott plays the girl who ducks down with her mom in this movie. she is a backround charater so dont blink when oyu seethe movie! (she is NOT in the previews!)
Great locations--AND the can can dancers!!!. Not to mention the historical characters belle Star and Judge Isaac C. Parker to name just two--Looks to be Five Star + !
