can I use the powerbelt ammo rather than the sabots or is thier no difference

What exactly are powerbelts ammo? Can round balls be used instead of the sabots, since the sabots are essentially $1 each? I understand that the twist rate is higher than what's usual for round ammo...any comments on this? Thanks
