  • Unfortunately, Rufus' son Lebrew didn't do anything wrong except be in the wrong place at the wrong time:

A reporter by the name of Christine Young helped win his freedom last November:

He's now playing in 3 bands in NYC. I'll post a link to a performance soon.

  • @Easleytee That was tasteless and forgettable. You will never make it outta grandma's basement.

  • @Easleytee

"Nothing remotely tasteful or musical about Rufus Jones"

What an incredibly stupid thing to say. Rufus Jones was the drummer for Lionel Hampton for years, for Count Basie band for 2 years, the Duke Ellington band for 4 years and Maynard Fergusson for4 years.

Do you think these guys don't know what makes a tasteful or musical drummer?

These guys only hired the best...

Go and listen to some of the many albums with Rufus playing, he was a wonderfully tasteful & musical player.

  • Easleytee--

The idiot below me who thinks he knows what makes a tasteful drummer.

    Easily a forgettable asshole.

  • A forgettable drummer.

Nothing remotely tasteful or musical about Rufus Jones.

  • drummers like this can be found in death metal bands today..

  • Wow! Great vid, thanks for posting this - I've only ever seen the black and white footage from Drummerworld before.

Criminal there is so little stuff of his available - he would have been remembered alongside the greats had he had a bigger back catalogue - awesome player!

...er, what did his son do?

  • Some in the MidWest said Barrett Deems was faster, though few if any ever challenged Rich's overall dominance. But if you're a Jones, you're a drummer, whether Rufus, Joe Jones, Harold Jones (all Basie drummers), Philly Joe (Miles and Bill Evans),. Elvin (Coltrane, briefly Ellington), Rusty (Shearing)., Randy (Maynard, then Brubeck). But what counts most is to be able swing. Bobby Durham had it in abundance, and I never understood why Duke let him go after 6 months (before hiring Rufus).

  • @seetherfanx2 my ass

  • speedy jones, a jazz monster man.
