I think that claim was made in comparison to the NBC Daytime version of Wheel of Fortune, which preceded this version. The syndicated version always had a bigger budget.

Keep in mind, those "cheap" amounts were on the Wheel to keep contestants from exceeding CBS's winnings limit, something they didn't have to deal with at NBC. If you could put the amounts on he Wheel aside, he show wasn't all that bad. Bob Goen did a great job hosting this. In fact, when Pat retires (which will hopefully not be anytime soon), Sony should consider calling Bob and asking him if he'd be interested in returning.

my guess is that it's comparing itself to the first few months into the cbs run when it said "more cash". but yea, you can't help but to laugh at that statement when every other space is $100 from the 3rd round on.
