cornflower blue (the summer song)

i wrote this today to avoid doing my chores...

junkyard dogs and pickup trucks
matinees and soda pop
days so long they don't know when they're through

and traffic blares against the curves
and pretty girls, will make it swerve
somehow they stick to the road like glue

and maybe in some time or place you heard a song or saw a face
that rang a bell and made it resonate
beyond the years and crooked tears
and those minuets and those silly fears
and maybe when the traffic stops it says...

cornflower blue
summer storms, they blow through

chores that won't just do themselves
mosquito bites and healing salves
a bed too soft to ever quite forsake

Just pray you never land a record contract because, then, wrinting more songs will become your dreaded chores and you will end up working around the house, to avoid "them songs" ... hey ... you could write a song about that ! ... no ...
