I like the fact that he's actually typing in code. If this were a demo of a Microsoft tool, your hand would first be attached to the mouse with super-glue and then you'd be dragging and dropping pretty colored shapes for a couple of weeks, or until your hand fell off.
You own your code and content, and Google gives you royalty free access to their APIs and a quota of free use, of which they can modify the latter given a 90-day notice (other terms of service can change on the fly). You in turn give them royalty free access to run/advertise your application on their service as they see fit. Also, you must comply with a slew of other service terms (limited liability, etc) and privacy/content policies. That being said, it's really cool.
Is it really any better than developing stuff with LAMP? If it's main purpose is to make stuff simpler, I'm not sure that that's working. Or perhaps it's just because my Python isn't great.
