France holds the rotating presidency of the European Union until December 2008. With a president like Nicolas Sarkozy, the agenda of the traditionally boring EU all of a sudden becomes entertaining. France makes sure to play its role properly, but Sarkozy's start to the EU presidency is weak, and it remains to be seen if he can manage to make a real difference in the next six months.

  • To take the figures & provide the FACTS

The EU Constitution/Lisbon Treaty must by its own LAWS be RATified by all 27 member regions. So far 19 Nations have surrendered to the RATification that's 19 countries or 5000 politicians!

France with a population of 64,473,140

Netherlands with a population of 16,428,071

    & Ireland with a population of 4,339,000

EACH by a majority voted NO

In Democratic terms 85M to 5,000 AGAINST

The EU has no mandate - is it then a dictatorship? Ratifying a RATnest

  • Ever heard of Buttigleoni? Why not read

CAESARS VICARS IRISH GOVERNOR, CARDINAL SEAN BRADY, THE IRISH MIND, THE POLISH MIND AND THE BIG PICTURE. If you have no glasses for these things, then you may not be able to see. On the States read Joe McCabe or Susan Jacoby' s latest book or 'Vatican Assassins', which for all its blood and guts is factually very correct...

  • Personally I've seen no interference of church into EU politics, and besides It is embedded in constitutions of EU countries that there is separation of church from state. although I can see where you're coming from, especially with religion playing big part in US. But regardless of everything, it is private matter of every person what does he believe in. That is what we call tolerance. And you must admit that European culture was shaped for almost 2000 years by Christianity. It's our history.

  • I agree, balls or no....but the 'us' part is being taken by the Vatican, so that the EU, like Ireland and Poland, are nothing if they are not Heil Caesar. And while I want secular things done, it appears that Der Papst is insisting on running the show... which puts people like me out in the cold.... So,...

  • Well then, it seems that some of us are happy about the mediocre state of Europe and the constant arguing. I on other hand would like to see some active politics done, with first being common energy policy, and then establishing ourselves as an alternative to US and China for the world community. Europe already proved on several occasions that soft diplomacy can do more than aggression and by "balls" I mean more pro-active work instead of simply responding to what is flying at you.

  • Some of us are sick of politicians with 'balls'; they are invariably influenced by the Pope who has none.. Might I mention Franco, Il Duce, Hitler, Blair, Bush, etc.etc... Do you really want such biblical phalangists....

  • We need politicinas with "balls" instead of this showman. But it is hard to find anyone up to task. Especially if you got 27 countries constantly busy bickering between themselves instead of doing some serious politics by opposing Russia and sorting out its energy policy. We do something together, or disband EU altogether!

  • go sarko go....w berlusconi w sarko

  • mark77mr:

I respect the irish decision but in my humble opinion it's ridiculous to call the people to a referendum on such complex international treaty like LT.

  • Greg260146:

I didn't leave R.Ireland out. EUCT and LT are diferent things! Furthermore, no other referendum for LT were done besides R.Ireland so what's the point of comparing?
