  • @Yankees27u You're right but legally she is not Speaker. On January 3rd, the House of Representatives literally goes out of existence. All of its members, including the Speaker, are no longer sitting members of the House. that is why the Constitution vests the Clerk of the House from the previous Congress with the power to summon the Representatives and call the House to order on the first day of the session. Thus, she is technically the incoming Speaker, even though she was Speaker previously.

  • This is actually the beginning of the 111th, United States Congress, wich began on January 3rd, 2009 with the members being sworn in on January 6th, 2009. So Nancy Pelosi was not the incoming speaker, she was already speaker and this is her being sworn in for a second term as speaker. She became speaker after the democrats won a majority in both houses of congress in the 2006 U.S. Midterm Elections and was sworn in a day after the beginning of the 110th United States Congress onJanuary 4th, 2007

  • @jaguars067 umm... Democrats took control of Congress in 2006... so yeah. Just because Bush was president, doesn't mean Republicans were the majority party. When did Pelosi become Speaker (i.e. with a Democrat controlled Congress)? Oh yes, in Jan. 2007!

  • I don't think I would let my children up there

And you represent adults not children!?!?!?

  • That commie hides behind children.
