This song has nothing to do with Clarke's book.

I'm just curious, why do you think this song was inspired by Clarke's book?
I just finished reading the book and nothing in these lyrics near hint anything told in the book. On the other hand, Childhood's End by Pink Floyd seems to have been inspired by the book.

3:12 Pirate Anthem..

As far as book comments go, more than likely the song was inspired by it. Iron Maiden has a long history of writing songs based on Literature or History. The Trooper, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Where Eagles Dare, To Tame a Land, Brave New World just to name a few.

Sounds a lot like it was inspired by the book by Arthur C. Clarke.

@WrathChild6656 Last I checked that's what music was all about. :)

Great song!!!

The intro is slightly saddening, its amzeing how Iron Maiden can put emotion into intrusmentals and not jsut vocals...
