In September of 1993, 6 Mormon "intellectuals" were disciplined by the LDS church: 5 of them excommunicated, and 1 of them dis-fellowshipped.

Perhaps the most strident and controversial of the 6 was Paul Toscano.

This is his story.

  • @klausvanforester: No it is NOT all subjective b/c it exists in your mind. It really exists. A thought is a real thing. Thought, in the form of premeditation is the difference b/t manslaughter & murder in a criminal trial. Those actions are only crimes & evils as they emerge from YOUR mind b/c it is YOUR mind, that is a rational human mind. An animal that, for instance, forces itself on a female to mate is not a rapist.

  • @VictorLepanto So...child rape, arson, and genocide are only evil in my mind? That's odd, since it's all subjective if it only exists in the mind. I don't see a need for a justice system if evil is only perceived and doesn't really exist. Also, what's your proof that God created everything other than a medieval monk said so?

  • @klausvanforester: To paraphrase St. Aquinas; everything that exists is either God or that which is made by God. If something is made by God, it is (by virtue of being made by God) good.

But we speak of evil, & then in what sense can anything be regarded as evil? Does evil even actually exist? Evil only exists in this limited sense; evil exists only in the mind of a rational being (such a man or an angel) which is capable of moral understanding & thus moral choice. Only our actions are evil.

  • @VictorLepanto So again to complete the circle, isn't God responsible for the evil in the world if he CREATED EVERYTHING. Unless he isn't omnipotent which doesn't make sense. Or he is just malevolent. It seems like Satan or Lucifer or whatever you want to call him is a way of justifying a good god allowing evil.

  • @klausvanforester: It is the true authentic historical teaching on Satan by the whole Judeo-christian Tradition. God exists as an INFINITE & ETERNAL being. Having neither a BEGINNING or an END, & having no limitations of any kind. EVERYTHING is CREATED by him & so are all the angels. Satan, originally named Lucifer (meaning light bringer) was one of the original 3 supreme archangels, beside Gabriel & Michael. Satan refused to obey God & took 1/3rd of the angels w/ him to Hell.

  • @VictorLepanto Where did you learn that? I sincerely want to know. I was raised Mormon and have not heard that specific take on Satan. I am interested in other beliefs and that is another reason I commented and watched this vid.

  • @klausvanforester: Satan was not originally Satan, but an archangel like Sts. Michael & Gabriel. Satan was supposed to lead the choir of angels in worshipping God. He refused to obey God & was damned. Now Satan uses his gifts, originally intended to honor God, to undermine God. It is Satan's fault that he has done this. He was originally innocent, holy & pure. Jesus came to show us the way to God. Man chose to show its contempt for His holiness.

  • @VictorLepanto Well I came to this vid through an exmo site, and I thought it was insightful. I then read your comment and thought it did not make sense that God would create a devil and then send himself or his son to fix everything that could have been avoided in the first place. And isn't it the blood of Christ that is supposed to redeem mankind or do you not agree with that.

  • @klausvanforester: Why are you starting a discussion of God's infinite & eternal nature a Mormon site? They don't even believe in an infinite & eternal God. They believe in a multitude of mere men who became gods. God set up a system of love, where we know perfect happiness in loving union w/ Him. Blood & suffering are hardly the same thing. Blood exists to nurish our bodies & it is one of His beautiful giftst to us. Suffering is intrinsic to being a creature.
