While heading back from my days filming I noticed a track machine heading my way so I quickly pulled over and started filming. To my suprise the track machine stopped close to where I was so I headed over with camera still in hand to ask if the crew would mind me filming them working with the machine. No sooner had they said 'no problems' I was delighted to see a second track machine arrive. A quick trip back to the car for the tripod and it was action aplenty.... The crew had stopped in the crossing loop waiting for "The Overland" to pass before they would be able to continue on their way. They also needed to turn one of the machines which was a bonus for me to film.

The following scenes were recorded and can be jumped to by clicking on the link times below:
0:00-0:31 Ballast Regulator BR005 arrives just as I hop out of the car (5pm)
0:31-1:02 Ballast Tamper RTM3005 arrives (5:03pm)
1:02-1:16 Down V/locity heads towards Geelong (5:13pm)
1:16-3:16 Crew prepare BR005 for turning (5:20pm)
3:16-3:32 Overland hauled by a very clean NR45 (PN Stars livery) (5:24pm)
3:32-6:20 Turning of BR005 (5:25pm)
6:20-7:29 Departure of track machines (5:27pm)
7:29-7:45 Up Passenger train from Geelong hauled by N475 (5:29pm)

  • There isn't really anything to see on this video, it sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Fortsand1

Track Machines spend most of their llfe waiting in sidings and not doing much. For those who like track machines it is interesting to watch one being turned, for those who like high speed non stop thrills they're boring. Each to their own...

  • what do these maxhines do ?

  • The first machine is a ballast regulator which makes the ballast a nice and even layer with the correct angle falloff outside the sleepers. The second machine is a ballast tamper which pushes the ballast together under the sleepers to make a firm base.
