Fr Bob Bedard Funeral Mass Oct.12th 2011

Beloved Founder of The Companions of The Cross, Fr. Robert (Bob) Bedard went home to The Lord at 10:17pm on Oct.6th, the vigil to The Feast of Our Lady, Queen of The Most Holy Rosary. These are the concluding moments of Fr. Bob's Funeral Mass celebrated by Archbishop Terrence Prendergast at Notre Dame Basilica in Ottawa on Weds, Oct.12 2011...

It was a grand event, a beautiful and joyful liturgy - the readings, the music, Fr. Scott's eulogy, everything form start to finish. It was a celebration of triumph in Christ and His CROSS -a strong affirmation to our faith and life in THE CROSS we share with Jesus and each other in our collective journey as the earthly pilgrims of Christ's Church, particularily here, in Ottawa, where Fr. Bob labored and laid down his life. The Church was packed to capacity and there was an overwhelming sense of us all present being united in CHRIST'S ONE SPIRIT OF LOVE on one same faith journey in Christ to our everlasting homeland.

Even in death Fr. Bob was shepherding us, evangelizing, inspiring, affirming and fathering us. We who had the great privilege of knowing him personally were today SO BLESSED by this final witness to us - the witness of a new saint eternally born to God in Holy Mother Church. HE MADE IT-HE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE WITH ST PAUL AND ALL THE SAINTS IN GLORY. In life and death, Fr. Bob pointed only to Jesus Christ, The Saviour of Mankind and True Lover of our souls. Fr. Bob remained single-minded and single-hearted in His love for Jesus and indeed JESUS WAS MAGNIFIED AND EXALTED TODAY, BY HIS GREAT FRIEND, HIS BELOVED SON AND ZEALOUS SERVANT PAR EXCELLENT, FR. BOB BEDARD

So we thank you JESUS and MARY for the gift of his whole life's witness to each of us, for knowing this holy priest, your precious child and true icon of Christ! All Praise and Glory and Thanksgiving be Yours THRICE HOLY TRINITY!

" PRESS ON", his favorite song, which was like his personal theme song, was sung as his body left the Church to go to it's final resting place at Hope Cemetery. Let us all then PRESS ON to attain that glorious inheritance and crown that Fr. Bob, no doubt, has won today in our presence.
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace...Fr Bob pray for us!
