I had watched LOTSW for a few years when I saw this episode. As this one unfolded I began to realize that Compo (okay - Bill Owen) had actually died. It was as if I'd just found out a dear friend had died. I cried through the rest of the episode (and probably for a while past it) and was depressed for days. The characters (especially Compo and Cleggy) were so endearing is was natural to get emotionally connected to them.

I shall always remember Clegg he is one of the last ones left.
A programme which will be remembered for many years to come.
To all those others who are no longer with us and have given us so much pleasure over the last 37 years then may their dear souls rest in everlasting peace, Thank you for the pleasure you all gave to others!!

It was so touching and the adaptation of the theme tune was beautiful with the orchestra and when Cleggy said we thought you might like one last trip through the hills, I just cracked up. I have to say it wasn't the same without Compo but all the other actors were brilliant. Margaret in Wigan

@Gulftastic totally aggree, the bbc has shown little respect to the actors and the viewers.
One wonders what will happen when Clegg dies, God forbid. They may be able to continue it on, but I think if that happens then few will watch the show anymore.
The only man to appear in every episode, but when he goes, the last of the spirit of Last of the Summer Wine will too.
Rest in Peace, Compo.

I found out about his death from this episode. It broke my heart. But I'm glad they didn't take the show off. The ten year episode is one of my favorites.
