The Soccer Aid TV programme, broadcast in May 2006, included six films featuring UNICEF Ambassadors telling the stories of children whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS, malaria, malnutrition, lack of education, lack of clean water and abandonment. These are the areas of our work that money raised by Soccer Aid supports.

In this film, UNICEF supporter Paul Bettany speaks about UNICEF's work in Mozambique to ensure children have access to clean water and decent sanitation. In Mozambique, unsafe water and sanitation cause the deaths of more than 50 children every day.

  • Thank you for commenting on our video. As our current 5 year campaign is Unite for Children, Unite against Aids, it is to be expected that our work with children affected by HIV and AIDS will be in the spotlight.

UNICEF in fact support a number of 'Street children' projects around the world. Please take the time to have a look on the main UNICEF channel which has a video highlighting one such project in Odessa, Ukraine.

  • Such a huge fan of his, and seeing this just makes me so happy that there are people like him supporting this cause. Celebrities could just go about their rich, full, healthy lives and not give a damn about what is going on in other parts of the world, but seeing people like Paul contribute to humanitarian work is just amazing. Keep up the good work :)

  • We will be setting up a sports project in Mozambique soon, in the south, in a place called Sabie, with the aim of helping the community and all who participate. UNICEF is a big inspiration and too often criticised, though is sport and the power it has; to unite and inspire, among other things, not critical in helping impoverished people, and should more emphasis be placed on such importance and more sporting projects be used to bring about positive development and change.

  • UNICEF does a lot fot AIDS orphans. That `s good. But they forget the streetchildren.
