In August of 2007 journalist/producer Don Ray traveled for hours to reach the remote Malawi village where Yohanne Banda lives. He's the father of David Banda, the boy that Madonna adopted in 1986. By the time we arrived, the sun was nearly setting and we had a dangerous nighttime return trip ahead of us. We were only able to spent about 25 minutes with the warm, friendly and remarkably modest man. He had given up David when his first wife died. He had nobody to care for the boy. At the time of this interview (Interpreter was Rebbecca Chimjeka), Yohanne was remarried and expecting their first child together. I shot this with a consumer camera with a built-in microphone and no tripod available. Sorry for the shakiness. He was in the process of building the brick house you see in the background.
