The song itself was written by Rodgers & Hammerstein for the 1945 film "State Fair" and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Ella recorded this on several occasions, and none more touching than this rendition.

  • i'll never hear anyone else sing this song. god bless her.

  • @Nocaro no prob. Thanks for trying. I've found she did arious versions of this song 1958, 59, 61, 62 (on album LP 12" MONO 'Ella In Hollywood' Verve V-4052. I wonder if this could be that one?

  • just enjoy it for what it is. I'm 25 this last year, and I'm sure many more will agree across the age's. The song is a classic (literally) ,the video shouldn't even be considered. The only reason there is a video is because of youtube. I'm not trying to offend you or your critique. You are accurate, though... it just seems unnecessary .

  • Interesting. The pictures show spring flowers. But, the song says "it isn't even spring." Also "I haven't seen a crocus" (an early spring flower) "or a rosebud or a robin on the wing" Rosebuds & robins are seen from early spring through late autumn, so clearly this is a song for winter. It's not spring but....I have spring fever. Yes, you can feel this way in the winter. No problem; It's the perfect midwinter song.

  • This is such a woundful song, Why should you care who wrote it. i'm white as the snow and this lady is Great

  • The glory of African Americans is their musical ability. Such as Ella's voice.

This song was written by two white dudes. Rogers looked like a banker or CEO; Hammerstein looked like a high school principal or university athletic director. Hopeless squares. But Hammerstein had a genuine gift for saying corny things without offending the mind or ear. I thank my God every day for having given us Richard Rogers, the American Puccini.

  • Classic song, classic performance.
