"The military is designed to break you down and build you back up."

That is misleading. What people feel is a new form of isolation and deprivation since they are restricted in behavior and dress.

I witnessed the teenagers, fresh out of high school, get upset and emotional over the experiences, while those over the age of 21, been in or graduated college, parents, people who had worked and held down jobs and lived on their own, could handle the experience.

My advice: Treat it like living like a monk. You are in a place, doing things told to you. Be quiet and observe, be respectful, have a "pride" in your work, but at the same time, expect everything you do to mean nothing. Laugh and go to your "happy place" during the rigors of Basic Training.

Check out the "Blood Type Diet."

Studying Bruce Lee, Henry Rollins, Sun Tzu, the Samurai, and even religious monks, prepared me for the Army's Basic Combat Training (aka Boot Camp).

  • @JoshPahr Agreed.

  • @skyanimal my reason is to defend the country, but my bonus and perks is a close second.

  • I have much respect for most military. I am fighting with myself on whether or not to join. This isn't a question so much as a concern. I don't ever want to be in a situation where my CO gives me an order that is immoral. This next part is special: I don't want to kill anyone. Is there a way to get over that...can you get over that? I'm interested in military for very different reasons.

  • hell yes... its voluntary... filled with men and women who WANT to defend their country... the one goal in all of our minds is defending that flag and the land it represents... nothing is stronger than that

  • Chlorine is in all water that is from the City.

  • All war is theoretically unjustifiable...save for a few, of course.

Besides, it isn't my war and I am currently not apart of it, but who gives a fuck? This war is of the same prospect of many others, ones which span back thousands of years, greed and land.

  • sometimes i do too, but you are way wrong ... i'm not some crazy hippie fighting the man ( that's a stupidifying stereotype ) , it's not some fashion or the flavour of the week , it's a conscient opinion , i'm not against your war you dummy , i'm against any unjustified war , does that makes me a terrorist ? by the way ... i don't even watch TV ...

  • How so? Have you ever suspected that you are the puppet?

Your bias is due to a mere social standard, much along the lines of "fighting the man". How did you procure this bias? Ultimately through the influence of media and others. Now I will ask you the same question:

"dont you fell like a puppet ?"

  • Have you served?

  • Good info to know. I'm about to head to Boot Camp in two months and I've been studying Bruce Lee, Sun Tzu, "The Heroes Within", and other works.

Training like a Monk... good philosophy!
