  • @Jorell1000 You could remove them and just block off the holes. but if you can, you're better off finding "non emission" inlet and exhaust manifolds.

it's hard to squeeze power out of the H.E head.

you might find this site useful jagweb com/aj6eng/

  • @MartinObviously Couldn't I just scrap the EGR's if I wanted to, running straight exhaust?

Is there any way to get around the air injection issue?

  • @Jorell1000 initially, the flat head V12 had a reduced compression ratio in US versions (7.8:1 iirc) the UK ones were 9:1.

after 1981, there were new style cylinder heads fitted which gave better mpgs, but this time, on US versions, EGR valves and air injection reduced power.

You can blame California for that! lol

  • @MartinObviously What did they do to shave off the power? Restrictive exhaust?

  • What is the problem? I also do that many times, but I'm not crazy

  • Poor jag. Those cars were born to a classy ride. Not a small-cock Ferrari's exhibition.

  • hell ya!

  • @miniz33 The electrical systems always need replacing and the servicing/repair costs are more than the car is worth. British Leyland build quality is terrible. the XJS at this age is best avoided unless it has been completely rebuilt! There are companies that will take it from you with around £20,000 to put it to how it should have been built. Obviously not worth the money and the XJS is not an investment compared to CLASSIC CARS. Loads of XJS in scrap yards these days, rotting away!

  • @Mastermind12358 Don't get a fat head about these jags, I'm a muscle car fan but definitely have a spot waiting a v12 xjs someday. I have no idea what makes you think vintage muscle cars can barely reach 100? Don't exaggerate to make your point, of course a car with 3:07 gears, roughly 300hp, and surprising aerodynamics can do 150. I am, among others, scared of the british leyland build quality of these cars, and the lucas electrical systems, with sub par electrical connectors and bad bushings.

  • how to ruin a car
