Part 1 of AlUla. AlULa is a historic city about 400 KM north of Medina. The site of Madain Saleh mentioned in Quran is about 15 KM from modern city of AlUla. But apart from ancient site of Madain Saleh, AlUla has other historic attractions too like a ^th century BC castle named after Muslim conquerer of Spain i-e Musa Bin Nusayr and and antient settlement that goes back to early Islamic period. The city has a Museum depicting the history of Alula from prehistoric to modern times.
The city was an important destination of Hajj carvans from early islamic period. In Ottoman period the railway line started to carry Haji's passed through Alula. There is a big railway station of Hijaz railway with a steam locomotive engine still standing at Madain Saleh.
