The ending sequence is translated into english courtesy of WOOMB.net, a place where you can download english translated MSX games and play them directly onto your PC. It's not for free of course, but the translated manuals and extras is a great incentive. The scanlation of these manuals are executed very nicely, especially XAK and Golvellius 2.

For the uninitiated, this is the original Golvellius released in 1987 for the MSX. It's an adventure game with 3 different styles of gameplay rolled into one: 1) Field, where you're free to explore 2) Horizontal caves and 3) Vertical caves. Your goal is to guide Keresis through the Valley in order to rescue Princess Reena from the evil Golvellius. To accomplish your goal you need to find swords & accessories to boost your attack and defense, and collect 7 crystals to defeat Golvellius. The length of the game is quite short but the Valley is a large piece of land to cover. It should take a newbie a few days to finish without a walkthrough. I enjoyed playing it years ago and it's still a fun game from beginning to end. The soundtrack is what I love most about it, the openning song is so badass.

  • And the game leaves in a cliff-hanger that may never be resolved... :-(

    This game needs a sequel!

  • I always kind of liked that Golvellius turned out to be a sort of tragic hero who needed to be redeemed, as opposed to a generic bad guy who needed to be killed.
