@siharat Thank you for your reply! I was worry about the possibility of Vientiane might turn into Bangkok situation! Our country might be poor, but we have a good heart, pride, & dignity. Keep up a good work in builting our country; every bit helps. Unfortunately for me, I'm too old & well est. in the US. Good luck & i'll be in touch.

@Aviatortothesea Yes, non Lao citizens including you and I. This is regulated when someone reports the couples going in and out of hotels or if the girl reports it herself. Then the guy usually has to pay a fine.
-
@Aviatortothesea I work here with a work visa sponsored by an NGO here in Laos. I also only have a US citizenship however if you report your earnings and pay the taxes then your citizenship will not get revoked. I know a few Americans living and married here for over 10 years. If they can do it then I'm confident our people can do it.
-
@siharat When you say foreigners do you mean anyone that's not a Lao citizen? And to what extent is this prohibition preventing foreigners and citizens to be together, how is this regulated??
-
@siharat do you have a work visa?Or dual citizenship.I obtained American citizenship when I was 19, but I know that supposedly it gets revoke if you move and live overseas permanently but I'm sure there are ways around that.

@phetlao Thanks for commenting. I'm not sure which aspect of dating in Laos you are curious about. If you are curious about levels such as casual dating then, yes, many people date casually. I think many people would be surprised about the openness unlike the days of old. Although we are becoming more open there are still laws to try and protect and prevent our people from being taken advantage of such as the prohibition of foreigners and locals being together before marriage. Hope that helps.

What u r doing is a wonderful idea, posting the events of your life, working, living, socializing, etc. in Laos. You are providing very important info. about our homeland, so that many lao expatriates abroad can assess the quality of life living in laos. Can u tell us little bit about dating in Laos, if u don't mind!!
I'm also Lao American and fell in love with Laos for the first time that I visited. I'm thinking of moving to Laos but just worried about the job situation, I am studying public health (health promotion and diease prevention) and will graduate within a year. Are there work I can find related to my field of study? If so do u know the pay and will be enough to stay in Vientaine or maybe start a family ?

@jake847 it's great to hear that u want to live and start a family in Laos. Yes, there are work related to ur field of study and our country very much need these skills. Just down the st. from where I work is the World Health Org. I have an awesome American Dr. that loves Laos as much as I do and he is starting his own health projects. As for the pay, I am not sure how much it would be but I think working with NGO's with your qualifications from abroad would definitely earn you enough income.
