Spokane Park to 'Blast' Squirrel Problem

Spokane, Wash., is having a problem with too many squirrels at the Finch Arboretum. The Parks and Recreation department plans to use a special machine to detonate some of the rodents. The Spokane Humane Society is trying to stop the blasting. (April 15)

@lilmatt721 They're not forcing it into a space. They're already there because they're digging the holes and killing trees. I don' t agree too much with the using that they're a tripping hazard to get rid of them. But killing trees kills much of the wildlife in the area, or drives them off. And there's no real other way to solve it other than killing them to save other things. Now, which is more humane, going in and giving them an instant death to save others, or just letting everything die?

you're forcing something that's already terrified of you into a confined space space, then blowing it up. yup, has to be the most humane method i've ever heard. even better than, oh idk, relocating them

hell, we might as well start calling Nazi gas chambers humane because at least those killed were basically put to sleep and not blown aparty by an explosion

Yes, another wonderful and ethical government program. Let's just blow up the damn squirrels and call it humane. I'm sure they all enjoy it -- just like they do with people.

Governor Gregoire is spending WA State tax payers money to kill squirrels? Yet, they are complaining there is no money to support important things like health care and transportation! What a pride for WA!
