@dinnerandashow A completely inaccurate statement. The idea that "non-whites" would have an issue here is ridiculous. I am an American expat living here for 8+ years and can say with certainty, that is absolutely the least of any issues here. The same goes for women and children.

If there is an issue to consider, it relates to guiding quality. It is advisable to ask if guides are certified, (BCU is most common here while a domestic system is in development and should be online in 2011).

My gut feeling still tells me that women traveling alone or non whites should avoid this area of the world for now.
