Like the late Soupy Sales, and Sandy Becker, Chuck was a genius, way ahead of his time... and incredibly talented. I watched him every day. His "Mr. Backwards" stuff was hilarious, and although originally done by Ernie Kovacs, was great for us kids to watch. It was a great time in New York City, in the mid-sixties. There's not ONE single entertainer like this anymore, and I wonder -why? I'm glad I had the great fortune to have grown up with these guys. Thanks, Soupy and Sandy, and Chuck!
This was an excerpt from his WNEW-TV show in the fall of 1965. Chuck later recalled that the "cannon" had such an explosive force, it blew out a control room window and caused the walls of Metromedia Telecenter to shake. Channel 5 insisted that he and Paul Ashley stage no more "explosions" of that magnitude after that.
Chuck McCann dated, of all people, my Mom when they both went to Andrew Jackson HS in Jamaica Queens NY. Once was enough for Mom. He was a nice guy, just too wacky and rambunctious. But she appreciated his talent as I did growing up. WPIX TV in NY rocked-as did WNEW 5.
These videos from our past bring back to mind a time when life was one big adventure and game. It is one of my greatest "escapes" You have my gratitude.

My goodness...am I that old that I remember Chuck McCann? "LET'S HAVE FUN" on sunday mornings, Channel 11.
He was the IMAGINATION Professor in Disneyworld, before they revamped it using Eric Idle.
He was a member of the same club as Sandy Becker, Soupy Sales and Sonny Fox.
All this brings back memories of living in Queens, NY as a kid in the early 60's.
