AP-RED's Jason Drew Catches up with the Anthony Rapp at the New York Musical Theatre Fesitival (NYMF) and discusses his one-man show and book "Without You." A story of his journey and the subsequent loss of his mother during the run of one of Broadway's most successful shows, "Rent." Anthony could easily and proudly be held responsible for the voice of modern musical theater.
With his groundbreaking role as Mark Cohen in Rent, Anthony set a new standard for what has become one of the most imitated vocal styles of the theater. The quirky, modern-day affectation and attitudinal tone in his voice suddenly made Broadway cool to rock-lover audiences and generally audiences thirsty for a Broadway that was truly broad, diverse and replete with relevant meaning. With that said one could easily concur that Anthony and Rent paved the way for Spring Awakening and more recently American Idiot with many more musicals to come.
Sit with Anthony and Jason as Anthony talks intimately about "Without You." Also hear a snippet from the song "Visits With You." Only here on AP-RED

@mabirger Hi, yes we shot this about 4 months ago. This is him now. Trust me, having been the director of this piece, Anthony looks EXACTLY as he did 10 years ago. He looks very young!
