The treacherous Oldenburg state attacked my German town of Cleves. They used to be my allies! Not wishing to lose my small regular French force against their full stack army, I retreated from the city but not far enough. When they assaulted the city, my regular force was called upon for support.
Unable to retreat, I tried to make the best of it so I evacuated my armed citizens to link up with my smallish main force. What was even more treacherous was the fact that they attacked first and then I only after the battle did I receive their cancellation of our alliance and their declaration of war...
