Rock and Roll Hall of Fame welcomes new members

Hello on this Tuesday, the 11 of March 2008. I'm Rebecca Field with todays UPI entertainment update.

There are now five new members of the rock and roll hall of fame. Pop star Madonna, singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, rocker John Mellencamp, The Dave Clark Five and instrumental group The Ventures were all inducted into the famous hall last night. The night included all star appearances like Justin Timberlake...who inducted Madonna and Tom Hanks who welcomed the Dave Clark Five into the museum. The event also included tribute performances by stars like Aretha Franklin and Iggy Pop and the Stooges.

A Los Angeles judge is giving Britney Spears an allowance. The pop star will apparently be given a budget of $1500 of spending money a week on a debit card. In addition the judge is allowing the pop star to hire two specialized attorney's to help deal with her affairs while she's under co-conservatorship. Right now her father Jamie and a lawyer share control of the singer's finance.

Van Halen is taking a month long break in their tour. The band has reportedly postponed 17 concert dates...starting up again on April 19. The group's guitarist Eddie Van Halen is apparently recovering from an illness...but there's no word on what that is. The tour promoter says he's currently being treated by doctors and undergoing medical tests. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon.

George Clooney is not official taken yet. The actor is rejecting rumors that he's engaged to his girlfriend Sarah Larson. People started talking when Clooney brought Larson to the Oscars with him...she's apparently the first girlfriend he's ever taken down the red carpet at the Awards. The actor was married from 1989 to 1993 and has since vowed before to never get married.

Angelina Jolie may give birth in France. E! Online reports the actress and Brad Pitt are planning to spend the summer in the south of France for the delivery. It wouldn't be the first time they hit the road for childbirth...their daughter Shiloh was born in Namibia. The two have yet to officially announce the pregnancy but Jolie stepped out at the Spirit Awards last month, showing off an obvious baby bump.

Hey since evryone's voting their own opinions on who should be in there,I'll give you some I think should be in there:The Cure,Dire Straits,Sonic Youth,Jethro Tull,Red hot chili peppers,MOTORHEAD,Stevie Ray Vaughan,Steve Miller Band,KISS and lots more,The Hall folks should look at our inductees we want to induct,not the bull voters who decide.

aaaargh i am 40 this year....and i'm as passionate as i have ever been about it. but i look for it in other places....music blogs, british rock magazines, emusic....i am not letting getting older stop me from looking for music. top 40 radio isn't very good anymore yes but there's so much to explore...and npr is cool and all, but ya know...here's a suggestion-look for a podcast named Sound Opinions...really great....helps me keep up w/ new music I may be missing out on...

how does someone like madonna who has nothing to do with rock n roll (or music for that matter) get inducted into the RRHOF & Iggy & the stooges among other more than worthy people get passed over again? just call it the "Hall Of Fame for Anyone Other Than Legitimate Rock n Roll Artist" & people That have actually contributed to RnR

I have been waging a battle for some years now, trying to clean up the Wenner-run committee's dirty act and start inducting REAL Rock artists: artists like ROKY ERICKSON, STEVE MARRIOTT, IGGY POP(both solo and with the STOOGES), TODD RUNDGREN, etc. It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to see shit like Donna Summers and Madonna get inducted yet REAL Rockers get ignored year after year after year...
