The Doors got their name from a book by Aldous Huxley called "The Doors of Perception," in which Huxley writes of his experience with mescaline, a psychedelic drug. Huxley believed that such drugs free up parts of the mind that otherwise aren't expressed due to their lack of biological advantage. I guess you can say they helped Huxley "break on through" the doors of perception...
