TheB0U /\/ T Y, THE is the third screen version of one of the best-known stories in naval history, here with Anthony Hopkins as Lieutenant William Bligh and Mel Gibson as Fletcher Christian heading an extraordinary cast including Laurence Olivier, Edward Fox, Daniel Day-Lewis, Liam Neeson, Bernard Hill and Dexter Fletcher. HMS Bounty's voyage to Tahiti of 1787-9 and its infamous consequences are recounted with far greater historical accuracy than in the 1935 or 1962 Mutiny on the Bounty. The movie is gorgeously shot on location in Tahiti, England and New Zealand as well as on a full-size recreation of the original Bounty.
Roger Donaldson's film benefits from a literate screenplay by Robert Bolt, who here as in Lawrence of Arabia (1962), brings real insight into the English institutional mind in conflict. Hopkins is at his complex best and Gibson offers more depth than his usual two-dimensional hero persona; here Bligh and Christian emerge as complex men gripped by circumstances beyond their control. The haunting score by Vangelis contributes immensely to a very underrated film which deserves to be considered a modern classic

  • This is the best! The best! and if any of you scurvy lookin dogs defy me, God help me I'll run you through!

Seriously though I love this film.

  • I bet Bligh gave her the "royal" treatment before he set sail. I love those British babes with a little meat on their bones and a nice rack to grab hold of.

The British retreated out of the Iraq war in 2007 and left Basrah. It was Iraqi army guts that took it back

  • @RichardElden

with what navy and air force?

  • How ironic, few hundred years later, our own country is infested with "degenerative natives". Draining our Tax money in the form of social welfare, causing social unrest and disproportionately committing crime and having twice as many children as the average "white British" family.

  • @RichardElden Same as the brits and much of europe. However, 'America' originally belonged to the indigenous indians. We're simply giving it back ot them. Brits have been indigenous to their regions for thousands of years and are simply giving their country/culture away. Guess you could say white people world wide have lost their balls. This is happening all over Europe. In less than a century most of europe will be majority muslim. Bye-bye.

  • @Lavern4101 oh yes we have really lost our balls, we just have british men fighting wars in iraq !!!

  • @tonee127 Brits had pride and might back then. These days they lost their balls. A real shame they are literally giving their country away in the name of diversity. Think of what their ancestors would say. Another fifty years and they're done.

  • @RichardElden calm down

  • Friends in England. Enemies in Tahiti. From one climate to another
