Meerkoet / Common Coot (Fulica atra)

In winter the Meerkoet lives in groups with other birds and tolerates their company. You know spring is coming when these birds start becoming territorial and chasing away competitors. These two birds had just been chased out of the water by a third Meerkoet and you see the remnants of the typical confrontational behaviour (dipped neck, stalking) slowly fade as they walk off, but it does not completely go away.
