While a lot of international attention has been focussed at the drought situation in Somalia, the situation in Kenya is also worsening. One person died in Loitanit in Turkana North due to lack of food and aid agencies are warning that the situation could get out of hand as there are so many people, especially children that are severely malnourished. This comes as the Kenya Red-Cross estimates that the drought is highly likely to persist until July next year. Andrew Ochieng has just returned from Turkana and here is his report.

even there is no drought next year there will still be need for food in this region. People have lost their means of livelihood: their animals.
