Basically the OLED is controlled by a micro via SPI. It took me almost a week to get this little device working but it was sure worth it! Its pretty and bright (works well in sunlight and no glare or blur from sun.. only from bad cameras (like this one))

The program on the micro draws 100 randomly colored and placed lines. This is just one of the many graphic commands built into the OLED controller! More to come.

  • Hey , did you use board of education? Have your heard of arduino, can we do this using arduino?

    These OLED displays are awesome.

  • Nope. I am using a PIC on a radioshack breadboard start kit. I never worked with the Arduino, but its one great development tool. Yes its possible. Just need to get the timings correct. The SPIEEPROM is a great SPI tutorial. I want to get an Arduino one day.

  • Did you published somewhere your project. I'm intrested in sending initialization routines. Could you share them? I'm trying to initialize the ssd1338 controller via SPI but it's stubborn, or maybe I'm doing silly mistake somewhere...

  • Who makes this oled model? Does it have spi read back capability (or is miso not used)?

  • SPI bus is too slow - slower than old ISA bus from XT PCs. Such slow speed makes fulscreen animation and many other aplications impossible - as were impossible on ISA VGA cards.
