I think I saw this on "The Masked Magician". The crowd reactions when he 'bites off' his thumb are real, but there is some camera trickery for the TV audience to enhance the illusion.
But well done for working out his thumb was never really gone.

Man people really aren't smart. It is Big Train. It says so in the title. Simon Pegg was in Big Train. This obviously isn't real. Just so you know there is a line between reality and fiction!
