Inside Information - Chantal Sutherland

A two time Sovereign Award winner as Canadas leading apprentice rider, jockey Chantal Sutherland set her sights on the United States. After success in New York, she is now making her mark on the Southern California circuit. A native of Manitoba, Chantals father Hugh owned horses and as she grew up she began galloping horses for a summer job. After college, she pursued a career as a jockey and hasnt looked back. One of her biggest supporters is trainer Barry Abrams who gave her a leg up on Lightmyfirebaby in the 2008 Irish Obrien Stakes on Santa Anitas downhill turf course. She has also attracted attention off the track. In 2006 she was named on of People Magazines 100 most beautiful people in 2006 and she is currently starring in Animal Planets reality series Jockeys.

Chantal is so amazing. She rode Mine That Bird the 2009 Kentucky Derby Winner when he was in Canada. She was the first jockey to start winning on him. She needs to be given her credit.

I was always a Julie Krone fan from the first time I learned that she grew up in western michigan and was high school friends with my wife's siblings. Now that Julie has retired from riding I have found a top replacement in Chantel S. And especially since she has moved her tack to the Southern California 2011 racing circuits I will be following, rooting, and betting on her horses as time and finances permit.
