Sadly, I think that's because a lot of the old Scandinavian folks have died. My Norwegian aunt and uncle are in their mid-80s and still live there, and they said a lot of their community is gone.

This is what I remember growing up in the 70s and early 80s there. It's much different now. Many that walk the streets look like they fell into a tackle box. Many moved out during the forced bussing era in the 70s and the rest when property taxes didn't allow the old-timers to stay because the taxes were higher than their mortgages had been. Most of old-Ballard is a museum piece now. Freakmont has moved in. LOL.....sad.

@mirrorbob Ya think maybe those kids were forced into 'the suburbs' due to the changes in housing costs in seattle and ballard since the early 90's? Where did that housing price change come from?
