FFVII SCIENMNANE - Airbuster

This fight would be a lot easier if I could hit him from behind. But oh well, still not too difficult.

Between Guard Scorpion and this fight, a couple important things happened.
#1 - Learned Meteorain in the Train Graveyard by fighting Mono Drives. Without the ability to escape from battles, this took FOREVER. I could've used any enemy really since there's no real level cap, but I'm trying to keep things exciting here. Also, Mono Drives occasionally drop Ethers, which is pretty helpful. Meteorain is necessary for Reno in a solo challenge, so there's no avoiding this.
#2 - Got a Spider Web from Grashtrikes (sp?) in the subway tunnels. I plan on using it on Demon's Gate. Probably won't need it really, but I don't want to take any chances.
#3 Got 3 Deadly Wastes from Smoggers in the second reactor. I probably won't need these either but they make a few bosses much easier, and this is the most EXP-efficient method of getting them. I can get more from Wutai if necessary too.

Anyway, after trying a few things out, it quickly became apparent that level 1 limits are best for this battle. Meteorain would make the battle much faster, but it would take more potions to get it charged up.

The way this fight was supposed to work, I would finish Airbuster off with another Cross-Slash, but one of his attacks missed which I didn't count on. So I just threw another Grenade instead of wasting a turn.

Anyway, something to keep in mind when watching these: I will be very stingy with items, since I'm trying to keep my EXP low. Therefore you'll often see Cloud in critical HP. This isn't the result of poor planning, in fact quite the opposite. This is especially prevalent when there's a mandatory heal point right after the boss, as is the case with Airbuster.

Indeed. Phoenix Downs are Gil fodder too, although I am keeping a handful for Gi Nattack.

I planned on putting up a fair fight with him as well, but it's basically a waste of items so I won't save it.

I hate Gi Nattack too but I use the X-potion it seems to more likely to work
