I seen two quetzals a male and female. I live in the u.s. But I travel every year to central Mexico to the state of Guanajuato. This was in December. I saw a man with a pair of beautiful birds with the long tail! I new right away that they were quetzal's. I even asked the man who looked of guatemalan origin if they where quetzal. He said yes I asked how much and he said 300each or 500 for both. I felt bad for the birds and I am against buying rare animals illegally! They should be protected!!

You may consider yourself lucky. Hundreds of people come to the R. Dairy Rivera quetzal national park in Guatemala, and never see a Quetzal.
