@Factnotfictionpeople Very true! But it was partially true back then. These guys traveled off the beaten path. Hank Williams Sr. once said he was a piece of bologna to his promoters that all they wanted to do was slice him up and sell him off piece by piece.

Nowadays, Don Rich would have been 'plucked' from the band, thrust to the front, exploited and used to make some talentless promoter even fatter and richer! Thankfully, Don Rich was a man of integrity as I understand it..............
