This is the great Italian virtuoso, Antonio de Innocentis, playing Etudes 1-3 by Villa-Lobos. This video was shot at my home in Iowa (on a small digital camera) in Oct 2003, during his 2003 concert tour of the US. I will be uploading many more, mostly of MUCH better video quality.

This one, however, still shows what magnificent control and beautiful playing Antonio has. I know of no superior guitarist.

Also, his beautiful guitar was made by the great American builder, Peter Oberg. You may get more info regarding his guitars at http://www.ObergGuitars.com.

Enjoy!

  • I've seen Antonio play live in Merced, CA. Such a great guitarist. He played Bach's Em suite which is one of the most difficult. These videos do him no justice. Still, it's great to see him on the web. He did a debut of Cooper's "Bless me Ultima" which I'm still waiting to hear on a recording from Antonio.

  • Antonio actually did a beautiful LIVE recording of Ultima several years ago. I have it on CD. I'll write to Antonio to see if I may send you one.

  • nice pajamas

    is that a one piece?

  • Yes.

Unfortunately the camera cut off the bunny slippers!

  • from Jose Sepulveda.......I truly believe that Maestro Innocentis is the finest guitarist in the world, and I've seen most of them I promise you!

  • Etude 2 was just too much. This is abusive! One could never play like that.

  • he was my guitar teacher =)

  • he is my guitar teacher, he teaches caserta!!at ruggiero secondary school

  • great playing

he plays better here than on the black and white videos

  • Correction to my comment above. Larry Cooperman is the composer for "Bless me Ultima". Great piece of work and I believe I saw the first performance of it in Merced. Cooperman was there as well. He played an introduction on a native american flute. Both composer and guitarist here are outstanding. As far as Antonio's performance of Villa-Lobos. 5 thumbs up from me!!

  • my favorite performance of these on youtube. it's amazing how a guy in his living room, tired of the tv, can crank these out. on 3 though, i would have liked him to repeat the main section - it's better like that. the comment below about doing him justice i dont really understand - certainly it's not "perfect" but his exalted musicality does indeed come through.

  • I know Antonio as one of the best guitarists in the world. One reason I know this is because I am a composer and I tried to break him. I've been composing for years, have some recordings of virtuosi performing my work but none can cut my Bless Me, Ultima except Antonio. And what a musician! Regardless of mindless comments of people who are just plain green with envy, he's a musician's musician.
