Mainstream culture has been reluctant to embrace solar energy but it may surprise you to know that Amish communities welcome the clean technology and energy independence.
solar panels are usually warrantied for 25 years, it comes from beach sand... they will last a long time, and will still be useful long after any of our disposable products are polluting the landfills...
does anyone see the irony here that the Amish, a peace making, simple living group are using something born out of the U.S. Military/NASA technology for their simple life style? Nothing wrong there, just the irony of it... maybe a type of making swords into plowshares...
I commented on this very subject in 2005 In the magazine Home Power, Issue 108, aug/ sep 2005, HP letters.. they have been doing solar here in northern Indiana (Goshen) since around 2003... we now have a large solar installer here who started as an installer for the amish ( He was amish him self) that is becoming a good business locally... but gone are the Traditional, large metal windmills to pump the water, been replaced by solar...
World bank cover up. are economy coming down and, why have we not found Bin Laden? because he's oil money world bank. The whole world has been trapped by them trough trade agreements all 183 countries. Go to there site and find out for yourself G7 ya right. IMF her sister. the love of money is the root of ALL evil. The W.B. is the tree the countries are under her branches. BANKS!!! read the bilble book of micah, The Amish do.
Selective limited use of technologies that is key. And keeping religion private so that it isn't a problem others or a tool for the governments to use in creating strife between us is also key. :-)
If they care about the cleanliness of their power sources in a sense of sustainability and ecology, I'm afraid they've set on the wrong horse. Solar panels still take a LOT of energy to produce and they don't recycle well (at least that's what I know so far). It's like importing power from the outside and creating trash. However they could build geothermal plants, which basically just use the temperature lower in the earths mantle by circulating water in a long pipe.

Love Amish, Love Solar! I've never thought about it but, the Amish are pretty GREEN in the fact that they don't burn fossil fuels in cars and trucks.
