A series of political and financial scandals have turned many of Thaksin's former supporters against him. Opponents are determined to force him from power.

"At first I thought he looked like quite a nice guy. But now he's showing us he true colours", states one protestor. At the core of growing dissent is the sale of his family's shares in ShinCorp to the Singapore government -- a deal which may have broken ten laws. Opponents are boycotting the snap elections called in an attempt to silence the urban uprising. "We don't want to lend him the legitimacy", explains one leader. But Thaksin has retained his popularity in the country leaving the nation deeply divided.

When Thaksin was P.M., he modified contracts between Shin Corp and the government. He authorized Shin Corp to pay less taxes and charges. The losses were estimated at hundreds billion baht, but profits for Shin Corp. This can explain why the share value of Shin Corp increased astronomically. Why, after so many damages to the state coffers, Thaksin has to be rewarded for selling Shin Corp at the top value offer, without paying taxes or more precisely PENALTY, as if there were no fraud before?
