And I need a job, so I want to be a paperback writer,

I love this song! May British rock live forever...
The line "based on a novel by a man named Lear", which hints at plagiarism, could be a shrouded premonition to all the kruddy covers of Beatles' songs and those of John, Paul, George and Ringo after the split.

@340rps We had a crappy radio when I was a kid and it sounded like "Take the Last Right Turn" and so I thought it must have had something to do with the Monkees' "Take the Last Train to Clarksville" !

Maybe autotune to an extent. But I wouldn't put synthesizers on that list. There are great artists out there that incorporate synths into there rock sound. Check out MGMT, they are great musicians, among many others. I guess you could put sampling and drum looping on that list to... oh wait, The Beatles did it...
