Vivica Genaux has been mentored by what some would consider the greatest authority of Baroque music in the world today. Seriously, the guy can even look at a Baroque score and plat it like it was a modern one. To claim that her ornamentation doesn't suit the music is rubbish. Also, during Baroque periods singers would invent new ornaments and technical difficulties - as Farinelli did. It's called innovation, while still retaining the Baroque technique and singing style. It's 2010 not 1750.

@Snuti Roberta Invernizzi is not less agile! I`ve seen her singing this aria with Stefano Demicheli and his ensemble Dolce e Tempesta and she really sang the hell out of this aria with a beautiful voice evenly produced and perfect coloratura.

@Snuti Genaux is technically really accomplished and sings with utter musicality BUT the ugly sound of her voice ALWAYS stand between her and total success.

sorry but the cd of the year is Cecilia Bartolis Sacrificium .... DOUBTLESS!!!!!!!
Bartolis concept is more interesting than Genaux'!!! Although the voice and technique of Genaux is quite great i personally prefer the voice of La Bartoli!! But it's a matter of taste ;) and i really appreciate this album .... but to be honest ----> cd of the year is the best selling record in the genre ... and bartoli is the best selling mezzosoprano of all times !!!!

what is the track listing for this cd?
Vivica should try listening to other baroque singers who , with less agilità , manage to provoke much more excitement because their ornamentations suits the music better , I'm thinking Sara Mingardo or Roberta invernizzi for instance.

I think her ornamentation is wonderful, to me it's the best thing about this album, and it suits the music perfectly. The amazing thing about it is that is sounds improvised and spontaneous (as it should be) and yet is very melodic and complex.
